Saffron has potent neuroprotective properties protecting function and structure of retinal cells and photoreceptors, protecting agains macular degeneration

Saffron by virtue of its antioxidative and gene-modulating constituents, particularly crocin promotes mRNA expression of gamma-glutamylcysteinyl synthase (gamma-GCS) in PC12 cells, and could be potentially useful in managing diabetic neuropathy. PC12 cell line is a suitable in vitro model of diabetic neuropathy.

Saffron carotenoids have antioxidant activity and therefore can neutralize reactive oxygen species that are involved in pathology of many diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR)-induced oxidative injury to kidneys.

Saffron 2020 is formulated with 20 mg high quality saffron and is approved in Canada for macular degeneration and cataracts.
